About the role:

At Queen Mary, we’re committed to sustainable development in all areas of university life, whether that’s tackling issues about the planet, profits or people. As a Sustainability Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to educate and raise awareness among students on a variety of issues, run your own campaigns as well as organise events and training. You’ll work collaboratively with the Executive Officers and staff on sustainability initiatives, engage with local organisations on climate matters and co-chair the Sustainability Committee with the Mile End Sustainability Officer. You’ll also have the option to work on your own projects and perhaps inspire new initiatives! Whether you’re harbouring years of passion or are just beginning your sustainability journey, the Sustainability Officer role is a perfect opportunity to play your part for a greener, kinder planet.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Attend relevant meetings within the Students’ Union and the university (see list of compulsory meetings below)
  • Collaborate with staff and the Executive Officers to identify opportunities to make the Students’ Union more sustainable
  • Engage with and lobby Queen Mary University of London to meet its obligations regarding environmental issues and the global climate emergency
  • Engage with relevant external campaigns raising awareness of environmental issues and the global climate emergency, including NUS and local organisations
  • Educate and raise awareness among the student body of environmental issues and the global climate emergency, and the structural and individual ways students can address
  • Co-chair the Sustainability Board with the Sustainability Officer (Mile End)
  • Provide regular updates on your work to the students you represent

 

Meetings that I attend:
  • Student Council (2 hour meeting, five times a year
  • Sustainability Board (2 hour meeting, five times a year)
  • BLSA Board (2 hours, six times a year)
