New: Men's Walk & Talk Group

Looking for a supportive space to connect with others and talk about wellbeing and mental health? Join our new Men's Walk & Talk group this November

Wellbeing

Looking for a supportive space to connect with others and talk about wellbeing? We're teaming up with the Advice and Counselling service to run a men's only walk and talk group during November called WALKING MENSDAYS. Men often feel pressure to hide emotions and avoid seeking help, but this group is here to break that cycle. Together, we’ll explore how opening up can reduce stress, improve mood, and foster connection, while enjoying nature. Join us for meaningful conversations and a breath of fresh air.

The weekly wellbeing walk is open to all Queen Mary students who identify as male. The group, consisting of up to 10 people, lasts 90-minutes and runs for 4 weeks. It offers the opportunity to connect with yourself, fellow students and to explore the local area, come rain or shine! The walk itself will involve some simple guided meditation techniques and will last approx. 45 mins. This will be followed by a reflective space in the Chaplaincy to discuss topics salient to men’s mental health in a safe and confidential way.

The course will run weekly every Wednesday afternoon for 4 weeks. We will meet outside the Chaplaincy (Mile End Campus) starting on Wednesday 13th November and finishing on Wednesday 4th December. It is expected that you attend all four dates to get the most from the course. Please arrive 10 minutes early because we will leave for the walk promptly at 3pm.

For more information or questions about the group please email both Vuong Ngo (v.n.t.ngo@qmul.ac.uk) and Jonathan Pinto (j.pinto@qmul.ac.uk).

Requirements

  • Ability to part-take in a gentle walk at a comfortable pace for approx. 45 minutes as well as engage in group led discussions around men's mental health.
  • Bring comfortable footwear i.e., trainers or walking shoes
  • Appropriate layers of clothing depending on the weather
  • Waterproofs such as: poncho or umbrella in the event of rain
  • Bottle of water for hydration

  • No previous experience of mindfulness or meditation required

Note: We welcome those with disabilities, however, please ensure you take necessary precautions/ measures to ensure your own comfort and safety.

How to join
Please complete the form here to provide some personal details. This is so we know how to contact you, and who to contact in the unlikely event of you becoming unwell whilst attending a session of the course. Any information you provide will be treated confidentially. Your details will be stored securely for the duration of the course but not passed onto a third party, and will be safely deleted when the course finishes.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
