Important Reminder for International Students: Transition from BRP to eVisa

The traditional Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) has been phased out and replaced by the new electronic visa (eVisa). Find out more!

Attention international students! The UK government has recently announced significant changes to the immigration documentation process. The traditional Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) has been phased out and replaced by the new electronic visa (eVisa). This article will provide you with all the essential information you need to navigate these changes smoothly.

Benefits of eVisa

We understand that it may not be easy to embrace these changes at first, but hey, there are some super cool perks that come with using an eVisa instead!

  • Super Secure: eVisas are linked to your biometric info, making them super safe and reducing the risk of fraud.

  • Easy Access: You can check your eVisa online, update your details easily, and forget about carrying a physical card.

  • Quick Checks: Immigration status can be verified quickly and securely online.

BRP is no longer a valid proof of age!

As an FYI, BRP cards will no longer be valid for proving your immigration status or age. This means you will need to rely on your eVisa for any official purposes. You will have to use other documents like your Driving License or PASS card as an official proof of age. This means that BRP will no longer be accepted as proof of age for entry into any events that are 18+ in or around campus, including club nights at Drapers.

Alternative Proof of Age Methods

If you need to prove your age and no longer have a valid BRP, here are some alternative methods you can use:

  1. Passport: An internationally recognised form of identification that proves your age, citizenship, and name. We would advise against you carrying your passport out with you though, so check out the PASS card instead. It's much easier to replace than a passport!

  1. Driver’s License or Provisional Driving License: A government-issued ID that also acts as proof of age. Any UK resident can apply for a provincial driving license before receiving their official driving license. This ID is considered a valid proof of age.

  1. National ID: A government-issued document that may contain your birthdate and other demographic information. This can be from your home country and examples include an Aadhaar Card or Emirates ID.

  1. PASS Card: A photo ID card that can be used as proof of age. (£15) https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/pass-card or get a FREE one through TOTUM https://totum.com/proof-of-age-id-card

  1. International Student Identity Card (ISIC): A globally recognized ID card that can be used as proof of age. https://uk2-online.aliveplatform.com/ordering/card-type-selection
