"Drapers tops non-alcoholic charts" says Student Beans

We're proud to have been recognised by Student Beans for our exceptional alcohol-free options for those not drinking at our venues! Here's how we did it!

Did you know a recent Student Beans research project looking at 70 universities found a third of Students’ Union bars don’t offer a non-alcoholic beer or cider? And nearly half don’t even have mocktails listed on their menu! Student Beans, the top-rated student discount app, investigated the non-alcoholic offerings at on-campus or Students’ Union bars across the UK, finding that very few are branching out into more exciting non-alcoholic offerings.

However, Student Beans recognises our Drapers Bar & Kitchen reaching the top of their non-alcoholic charts for our exceptional options for those not drinking at our venues!

Chloe Casanove, student expert at Students Beans, told us:
“We were particularly impressed by some university bars, including Queen Mary’s Drapers Bar & Kitchen. Their menu included one of the largest varieties of NA [non-alcoholic] options, including a refreshing mix of pints, spirits and fizz. It was also really nice to see their low & no-alcohol options demonstrated really clearly on their menu, making it more accessible for students to find and make that no-alcohol choice.”

At Drapers, we have three delicious mocktails on our menu, Lemonade Twist, Berry Crush and Tropical Refresher, which will all only cost you £3 each – with plans to add more this semester! Plus, every Friday you can buy one get one free – all day long! There’s no better way to end a week of studying hard than with a mocktail from Drapers in your hand. Or two mocktails… Sharing is optional!

There’s also a 0.0% Gordon’s Zero gin, which is mixed with Britvic Indian Tonic Water, costing from only £5. Want to share some bubbly with your friends? We have a 0.0% Sea Change sparkling wine bottle for those feeling fancy. Alternatively, there are various 0.0% beers and ciders, including popular brands like Heineken, Guinness and Thatchers from just £4 each!

And we’re not stopping there – coming to Drapers this semester are a brand new range of alcohol-free options, iced Matcha drinks, milkshakes and desserts.

As you can see, we have tons of options for students opting out of drinking, be it for a night or your whole time at university. Next time you’re at Drapers, give one of these a try and see what you think!

If you’re a sober student, taking part in Dry January, or just sober-curious – why not check out our alcohol-free events category on our What’s On page? From crafternoons to theatre trips, canal cleans to games nights, our events programme proves that you do not need alcohol to have a fun time at university! There’s even a Sober Socials Society, ran by students who love to have fun without the involvement of alcohol.

Student Beans’ 2024 Freshers’ Report shows that two in three students are open to doing university sober, and we are proud to have the facilities in place to ensure that students can visit our Drapers bar and have fun, while drinking our non-alcoholic alternatives! For more information on navigating university as a non-drinking student, please visit the Student Beans website here. We look forward to making memories and chatting over a 0.0% drink at Drapers with you very soon at our QMSU events!
