Liberation - inclusion - accessibility

Date embedded: November 2019

Status: Complete

Proposed by: Ahmed Mahbub (Vice President Welfare)
Seconded by: Sama Deen (ME Women’s Rep)

What do you want?
  • For QMSU to celebrate Islamophobia Awareness Month every academic year
  • This month should be organised by the Vice President welfare unless another executive officer is deemed to be better suited to running the event
  • A funding pot should be established that is solely used for this month, for relevant events regarding Islamophobia

Why do you want it?
  • QMSU should constantly renew the zero tolerance stance to Islamophobia each year, through this month
  • Every student should feel safe on campus
  • This month can also create further campus cohesion between different groups
  • 500% increase in Islamophobic attacks mean that this is an issue that requires constant attention

What impact will this have?

Students will feel safer on campus, more students will be aware of Islamophobia and the QMSU will always be seen to have a zero tolerance approach to Islamophobia
