BL Chess Society

We are a group of chess enthusiasts and our primary aim is to foster a community of chess players at Barts & the London! We welcome players at all skill levels from beginners to grandmasters as we will make sure you have an experience tailored to your chess confidence. Come along to our weekly sessions to be a part of our community and have some fun playing chess! 

Weekly socials:

Every week we host a semi-structured social session which starts with a few rounds of casual chess. Afterwards, we will spend some time together in groups for a mini chess lesson or an opportunity to solve chess puzzles. Lastly, we will finish with some casual / competitive rounds of chess. 

BL Chess Tournaments: 

Each semester there will be competitive chess tournaments held to battle it out for the title of BL Chess Champion. The time format will be Blitz (3 minutes) and the results from the matches will be used to update an internal leaderboard. Additionally, we are working on securing prizes for the top 3 players! 

External events: 

We are planning competitive matches against other University chess societies and looking to form an official team for BL to compete in external tournaments. Please express your interest to the committee if you would like to be involved.

Standard - Access to: Our weekly socials and 1 internal BL Chess tournament. 

Competitive - Access to: Our weekly socials, all internal BL Chess tournaments, the internal leaderboard, external events and coaching sessions to improve your chess.
