About

Who are QMBL Fencing?

We are a friendly three-weapon club focused on participation and development from Queen Mary, Barts and London Students. We prioritise making you feel part of the fencing family. Whether you are a total beginner or a highly competitive member, we will cater to your needs so that you may improve your abilities and reach your personal goals. Training sessions are fun and highly competitive to deliver the highest results standards for competitions. We have a very active and friendly community; we want you to learn, enjoy and succeed! We also have socials every Saturday after training and have post-match socials on Wednesdays, which you are welcome to attend!

Taster session (New members)

  • When: Tuesday the 24th September
  • Where: Qmotion Sports Hall, Mile End Campus
  • Time: 12:00 - 14:00
  • What to bring: Wear sports clothes and trainers, also bring a drink to stay hydrated! (Fencing is kit provided)

Beginner and Intermediate Fencing Sessions 

QMSU GetActive runs a beginner and an intermediate Fencing course. Each course runs in the semester and is a fun and affordable way to get involved and learn how to fence. THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF SPACES SO BUY NOW!

  1. Get Active Beginner's Session: 8-week Introductory Course
  • Teaching: Led by an expert coach and experienced fencers every week
  • Cost: TBC
  • When: Every Monday from 13:00 - 15:00
  • Where: Qmotion Sports Hall, Mile End Campus
  • Who: Individuals with little to no experience with Fencing
  • Weapon: Foil, Epee and Sabre

Experienced and Competitive Members

  • When: Every Saturday (starting October 5th)
  • Where: Qmotion Sports Hall, Mile End Campus
  • Time: 10:00 am - 14:00 pm

How do new members join?

  1. Join our WhatsApp group chat
  2. Complete our Signup Form
  3. Attend the taster session 
  4. Purchase your membership - Online or at the Hub (Mile End), BLSA reception (Whitechapel).
  5. Participate in the sessions, compete and most importantly, have fun!

Awards and Achievements

  • 2023/2024: Awarded Club of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year (Kaya Burrows). Nominated for Team of the Year and President of the Year. The women's team were also chosen as a Focus Team as well as keeping their place in the premier league!
  • 2022/2023: Awarded Club of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year (Georgia Silk). Nominated for Team of the Year, Committee of the Year, and GetActive Contribution of the Year. The women's team topped the BUCS league and reached the premier league!
  • 2021/2022: Awarded Team of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year (Daniella Reyes), Contribution to Sport (Emily Goodchild), GetActive Contribution of the Year. Nominated for President of the Year (Daniella Reyes), Coach of the Year (Jacopo Bianchi) and Captain of the Year (Faith Child). Women's and Men's teams topped the BUCS league, with the Men's Team winning the BUCS cup!
  • 2019/2020: Nominated for Club of the Year, Get Active Contribution, Team of the Year, Captain of the Year, Coach of the Year and 3 individual nominations for Sportsperson of the Year. The most nominations ever for our club!
  • 2018/2019: Awarded Get Active Club Contribution and the Jack Petchey Award. Nominated for President of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year.
  • 2017/2018: Awarded Team of the Year and nominated for Club of the Year.

Competitions

The club participates in BUCS, BUCS Individuals, the QMBL Novice Cup, London International University Fencing Competition and London Regional Intermediates. These events are perfect if you want to try competitions for the first time or want to represent the university. Big competitions, such as the BUCS individuals, are usually done together by the club, with travel and accommodation planned for by the committee.

  • BUCS Individuals (at Sheffield) in February 
  • Merger Cup (Barts vs. QM) in March
  • QMBL National Novice in March/April
  • LIUF in June
