About
The Ahlulbayt Society (ABSoc) at Queen Mary and Barts offers a nurturing environment for Shia Muslims to deepen their faith and knowledge while fostering community and inviting others to benefit.
Who Are We?
We aim to adhere to the message of Islam as carried by the Holy Qur'an, Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Ahlulbayt (his Household), by:
• Upholding unity, tolerance, and respect
• Developing strong bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood
• Encouraging healthy discussion which enriches our knowledge and spiritual growth
• Actively preparing ourselves for the reappearance of the Awaited Savior Imam al-Mahdi (A), who will fill the earth with justice and equity after is contaminated with injustice and oppression
We understand that university life can be overwhelming with the balance of academic and social responsibilities. That’s why we hope ABSoc can offer a nurturing network of brothers and sisters to support your professional and social growth, and, most importantly, your journey of spiritual development.
While we are a faith-based society, we welcome everyone to our events. Rooted in the Holy Qur’an and Shia Islamic tradition, our events explore contemporary challenges faced by university students and beyond. We aim to use our faith to navigate and address modern issues effectively.
Our focus is to foster knowledge and strengthen brotherhood and sisterhood among our members through the guidance of the Divine figures of the Ahlulbayt and the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.
