Hockey (BL Women)

About

Welcome to BL Women’s Hockey!
@blwhc

Who are we?

BL Women's Hockey (BLWHC) is one of the biggest (and self-proclaimed best!) clubs at Barts and The London!

We are a friendly, and empowering group of women who are all so excited to welcome any new members into a wonderful hockey family <3

(Contact information is at the bottom of this page if you have any questions/want to find out more)

What do we offer?

BL Women’s Hockey combines both brilliant opportunities to play hockey, and an unforgettable social calendar!

So whether you're a seasoned hockey player, picking up a stick for the first time, or just want to join a club where you can make amazing friends for life, our club offers something for everyone.

Playing Hockey

We have 3 teams at BLWHC, ranging from complete beginners to highly advanced hockey players!

Training:

Our weekly training sessions are led by two amazing, professional coaches.

And we train on the Olympic hockey pitch (!!!!!).

When: Monday evenings

Where: Lee Valley Hockey Centre, E20 3AD

Transport: The pitches are a short walk from the nearest tube station Leyton, which is on the central line.
Several members of the club also cycle and there is ample safe bike storage.
Send us a message if you would like anyone to cycle with!

What to bring: Sports clothes and hockey sticks/shin pads/gum shields if owned, but you can easily borrow a stick for the start of the season if you don't have one yet!

Commitment levels required: University can be a demanding time with exams and deadlines, so 100% attendance is by no means compulsory. It is clear to see that the more you put in the more you get out, in terms of both your fitness and skills but also with the fantastic social side of the club!

Competitions & Leagues

We compete in both BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) matches and LUSL (London Universities Sports League) matches.

1st Team - BUCS 2B, LUSL Competitive

2nd Team - BUCS 4B, LUSL Intermediate

3rd Team - LUSL Recreational

Match days:

  • Most Wednesday afternoons (BUCS matches)

  • Regular Sunday games (LUSL matches)

BLWHC's 1st and 2nd teams also take part in the Women's Hockey United Hospitals Tournament, and the 1st team compete in the Lee Valley Cup.

Socials

Off the pitch, we have a fantastic social scene with regular socials, dinners, balls, pub crawls, activities and much more, which allow our members to form solid, lasting friendships plus become engaged with all aspects of the student union.

We host both drinking and non alcoholic social events so there is something for everyone.

Tables: Every Wednesday, BLWHC attend the highly loved sports night: Tables.
This is where all 3 teams get to come together and celebrate the week's hockey successes! We spend the evening playing games at our student bar, and then boogie the night away on the dance floor (often in some whacky costumes).

We also regularly participate in volunteering opportunities and we get involved with several campaigns run by the SU and also like to raise funds for RAG.
