BL Medical Education Support Society (MESS) Committee Re-Elections 2024/25

Welcome to the Barts and The London Medical Education Support Society (MESS) 2024/25 elections. This is your opportunity to be a part of BL's ASOC Cup-winning student group of the year. Positions running through QMSU include: Co-Presidents (1 approved candidate, 1 position available) To run for any of these rolls you must also be a subs-paying member of MESS. The Year 1, 2, and 3 coordinator rolls will be voted for via a Google Form that will be reviewed by select members of the MESS Committee. Further details regarding this will be posted on the MESS Instagram page. In your nominations please include any relevant previous experience you have and why you would be a good fit for the role. President

MESS Co-Presidents In order to run for this position you must be a subs-paying member and have previously held a position on the MESS Committee. Please note 1 position has already been filled, the 2nd position is up for nominations. Please see the full role description

Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the activities of the society
  • Responsible for ensuring we act in accordance with SMD regulations (i.e. quality control by ensuring all teachers have been
    auditioned and trained)
  • Liaise with the MESS Staff President (Prof Alistair Noyce)
  • Organise teacher recruitment. This should ideally occur twice every academic year but must be done at least once to ensure
    the teachers community is sufficiently large enough to fill timetables. Senior MESS teachers and are requested to help the
    presidents with the audition process
  • Organise freshers fair and ensure committee are present to enthusiastically promote the society
  • Assist Year Co-ordinators in timetabling and ensure timely uploading of timetables to teacher group and encourage sign ups
  • Liaise with other academic societies for collaborated teaching events, ensuring they are MESS approved teachers and cover
    the appropriate content
  • Liaise with Gozo MESS to ensure they have adequate resources and assistance with queries
  • Ensure other societies which were not founded to provide academic support to medical students are not able to dilute the
    quality controlled extra-curricular teaching environment or take advantage of students by forcing them to pay subs for a
    one-off teaching event
