Student Media Awards

The Student Media Awards recognises the hard work and achievements of Student Media outlets and their members. The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on Thursday, 3rd April 2025. Please read all available award categories carefully and submit your nominations by Monday 17th March 2025 (9am) to be considered.

After the nomination period closes, a judging panel made up of Executive Officers will make a shortlist and pick one winner per category. We will announce shortlisted outlets for each category here and on our Instagram page. You can read all available awards below.

Group Awards

Celebrating the Student Media outlets that represents the Queen Mary student voices through engaging journalism and innovative story telling.

Outlet of the Year
Criteria

Awarded to a Student Media Outlet that has provided a wide range of opportunities for members to gain media skills and experience, while building a strong sense of community within their outlet. The outlet will have also regularly informed and entertained the Queen Mary community to a high standard over the course of the year.

Event of the Year
Criteria

Awarded to a Student Media outlet that fosters its community through a successful event that deserved to be celebrated. The outlet will have celebrated creativity, collaboration and innovation through their student-led event.

Diversity & Inclusion Award
Criteria

Awarded to a Student Media Outlet who have promoted an environment that welcomes all students by being committed in representing the diverse student body of Queen Mary University, combatting discrimination and prejudice.

Most Improved Outlet Award
Criteria

This award recognises Student Media outlets that have significantly transformed from either being inactive last year to establishing a strong member base or changing their ways of working to engage a wider range of students.

Individual Committee Member Awards

We also know that behind each student group, is a number of a committee members working hard to deliver their group alongside their studies and personal lives. To recognise this, we also have individual awards available:

Contributor of the Year
Criteria

Awarded to an individual who has gone above and beyond in their role for their Student Media outlet. They will have made a particularly outstanding contribution to Student Media throughout the academic year.

Feature of the Year
Criteria

Awarded to an individual or group of individuals who have written or produced a particularly notable piece of content in any media format.

Positive Impact Award
Criteria

This will be awarded to the committee member who has reflected on the world around them and used this to create a positive environment. They will have striven to make their student group inclusive, diverse, and sought to address external challenges such as environmental sustainability, inequality, climate change, peace and justice.
