Food Support

The QMSU Food Pantry

The Students’ Union’s Food Pantry is an emergency service open to all Queen Mary students in need of short-term food assistance.

The service is based in the Students' Union Hub reception, and open during our Hub opening hours, which outside of holiday periods are typically Monday to Friday, 9am-9pm.

The Food Pantry is not a replacement for the Financial Assistance Fund or other long-term wellbeing support services provided by the Students’ Union or the University. You can find out more about further support services here.

Fair Usage Policy

Take what you need, but please limit yourself to one of each food item, unless it is stated you can take more.

This helps us to ensure as many students as possible can use the service.

The Food Pantry is not a replacement for the Financial Assistance Fund or other wellbeing support.

Queen Mary Supermarket Scheme

You may be able to obtain a supermarket voucher from us if your funds are low, you are in immediate financial difficulty and you unable to afford to buy food, toiletries or other essential items. This can be used at a number of dedicated supermarket stores. Cash funds are not available. To be considered you must be registered on a course at Queen Mary and have limited access to funds. Each case is considered individually. A voucher is normally for £25 and can be issued once within an academic year.

Please fill in the linked form to discuss your eligibility for a voucher. Vouchers are also available via the Student Enquiry Centre, the Bursaries, Grants and Scholarships Office, and the Advice and Counselling Service. However, they are limited to one person per academic year. If you access a supermarket voucher it will be visible to each of the services who are able to issue them in order to prevent multiple being issued to singular students.

Vouchers are not a long term solution so if you are experiencing financial difficulty you may want to arrange a confidential appointment with a Welfare Adviser in the Advice and Counselling Service, to discuss your circumstances and options further.
